Children's birthday party - taking the easy way out...

NOT sponsored

Last month we held our daughters birthday party, and the girls from class were invited. We had booked a birthday party at a local playland.

At one point the parents of our daughter's class discussed rules for birthday parties, so no one should feel, that they could not compare. It was therefore decided that we should not have "expensive" birthdays. Actually, a very good example that money is considered the highest value of our society.

However, when you do have money, the scarce value often is TIME. Time becomes the unobtainable thing, that seems hard to achieve. Not many people - in Denmark in any case - have figured out how to reach abundance on both levels. People with lots of money have absolute no spare time, and people with lots of time on their hands often lack money.

Having both the time and the necessary creativity for arranging a birthday party at home including exciting activities, homemade cakes and artsy fruit creations suddenly seems as crazy as running a marathon. What a relief being able to take all the kids out, avoiding hours of cleaning, when you just have no time.

Certainly, I would love to be the kind of parent you could set up a campfire for the kids to bake their own pancakes. Exit office mum, enter scout mum. But...we're always in need of time, so we tend to take the easy way out. So we're lucky that the parents agreed, that it's now allowed to arrange this kind of birthday parties. The kids actually like both kinds of birthday parties.

I still have this feeling, that I ought to have more time, and that this is too much of everything - colors, noice, sugar...well everything.

The girls had an amazing day, everything was perfect. They had hamburgers and fries, popcorn, soda, icecream and candy bags. Daddy and I drank coffee and relexed on the couch, while the girls played. This is the second year in a row, we do this. And probably the last, since the girls will be a bit big for playland next year.

But we were freezing, and we both got a cold afterwards. Worth it, I should think.
